I am not feeling sorry for myself, I am trying to enjoy each day that God lets me stay here. I have six months to live without treatment and 18 to 24 months if I take chemo. I chose to take the chemo because I have a husband and two children that love me and I want to be with them as long as possible. I have always been health conscious, walking every day, watching weight, low fat, high fiber, but I left out an important test I should have had done -- a colonoscopy. If I had one five to six years ago, they could have caught it in time.
If you feel a high-kill shelter is not in the best interests of Madison County or the animals housed there, contact the board of supervisors and ask why the shelter is not being run and managed in a more humane manner as outlined in the Operating Procedures amended by the board in 2008.
We would love to save every animal that comes through our doors, but the fact remains that we do not have endless space and resources. “No-kill” shelters are allowed to turn animals away – they can say that they’re full, or decline to accept certain animals. As a county shelter, we have to accept every animal that comes our way, including feral cats and aggressive dogs.
I became Madison’s Postmaster in February 2009, and I consider this position to be the highlight of my 35 years with the Postal Service. I started as a letter carrier in 1977 and I have devoted my career to moving the mail and serving my customers. Like you, I have seen a lot of change in the Postal Service over the years, and like you, I am concerned about its future. However, the role I play is local, and that is where I focus my attention
The William Monroe High School Sportsmanship and Code of Ethics is very clear in explaining that “spectators exemplify positive sportsmanship behavior at all times.” The document “insists” on discouraging the use of taunting or derogatory remarks. I was appalled and sickened as I watched and listened to the student fans during the game.
Obama ignores the science that shows that each of these people who have died by abortion were biologically unique individuals. He called pre-born children “potential life,” denying their humanity and making a mockery of his own.
I wish to express my feelings concerning the posting of meeting announcements and meeting agendas in the paper. Just posting notices on buildings in the town and people getting this information from the Internet are not enough!
The worst part about the presidential election is that the best candidates are not even running. How can we get better as a nation with such weak leadership?
I also think that the substitute bus drivers and the car drivers should have been entitled to this bonus also! Even though they’re not considered full-time, they are still a part of the school system and are much needed. This should be reevaluated.
To me, that action is a court martial offense, and the Madison County Board of Supervisors should have severely rebuked him. He and the school board knew it was wrong, and that's why it was done in such a sneaky way.
I am concerned and somewhat offended by the attitude that folks in Madison County are not qualified to make decisions or fill vacant positions. Over the past several years outside consultants have been hired (at a cost of thousands of dollars) to make our decisions.
Of course, one needs to know what is proposed before being able to take any action. Example: had the public known about the decision to cut down almost every tree in the park across from the courthouse, the trees would still be there. No one had the chance to object.
A quick look at this nation’s history reveals periods of turbulence followed by breakthroughs of new understanding. Our current upheaval pales by comparison but could worsen if ignored. Americans are at peace when they feel they are members of a larger family, one that has problem members along with anchors who have our back.
With the economy in shambles we are all just trying to survive. My family has made cuts by buying less and watching our spending. Why is it that when the county needs more they just raise taxes with no regard for their fellow man? We might as well spit on the graves of those who have fallen for our freedom. That's what we are doing every time taxes are increased.
Ask yourself: Who are the peacemakers and who the makers of war?
Reading last week's Madison Eagle, it’s easy to see why Supervisor James Arrington was not re-elected, and why Supervisor Eddie Dean saw the handwriting on the wall and chose not to run. It's very simple. The Madison County Board of Supervisors continues to want to spend money that we, the county, does not have.
(Jonathon Weakley) is very aware of the problems we face, particularly in regard to land use, taxes and waste management. I believe he will do what is right for Madison County and help rein in unnecessary spending. Please support Jonathon Weakley when you vote on Nov. 8.
Perhaps most importantly, Doris (Lackey) cares about Madison County. So I encourage you to vote for Doris on Nov. 8.
(Doris Lackey's) approach to governing is exactly what we need in a supervisor. We got it right, Madison, in 1999; let’s get it right again in 2011 by electing Doris Lacky to the Madison County Board of Supervisors on Nov. 8.
The time has come to remember that and get rid of some of these supervisors. The next time around, more of them can be voted out. Eventually, we will get some decent, understanding people in office who will say no to new/increased taxes and have the courage to make cuts as needed and live within our means.
Rural Madison will be sponsoring two Candidates Night forums. Both forums will take place at the Madison County High School auditorium.
There is no shortage of political polls; we are besieged by them. Whether we trust them or not, we read them to get a sense of how the public feels about things. The politicians do too. The subject was discussed at one of the recent meetings of the Madison Democrats. At the same meeting, we did some planning with regard to Taste of the Mountains.
It would behoove the school board and others in authority, rather than clamping down on free speech, to eat a bit of humble pie, acknowledge the problems these youth cited and then network with the kids showing them statistics and info to correct any errors, then try to prioritize possible solutions.
This property in question belongs to all of the residents and taxpayers, not just those who abut this vital piece of ground. Who knows what the future will bring for you or a future board of supervisors on this matter?
