Madison County’s Mountaineer girls softball team has been on a roll recently. The only team that has been able to stop its within Bull Run District play was Clarke County last week, 2-1. All of Madison’s other games have been wins. Prior to the Clarke game, Madison got a huge 13-2 win over Rappahannock County.

But that win was nothing in comparison to the 27-2 shellacking of George Mason on April 24. Madison jumped out to a 19-0 lead after the first inning by pounding out 18 hits in the inning. After Tiffany Geer popped out to the first basemen, Madison sent 15 batters to the plate before George Mason recorded another out.

Twelve different Mountaineer girls recorded hits. Casey Racer led the way with four hits, four runs scored and three RBIs. Cara McCurry, Hannah Morrison, Caitlyn Ford and Geer added three hits each. McCurry had four RBIs and Amber Robson added three. Jordan Aylor picked up her fifth win of the year.

“We expected to win this game and wanted to make sure we played the game at a high level regardless of the score,” said Madison Head Coach Tim Taylor.
Within the last two weeks, Madison also beat Manassas Park, 15-0. Jordan Aylor had only four hits against her in the shutout while also striking out nine.

She had three RBIs offensively as well. Cara McCurry added two runs to the board as she hit in teammates. Becca Ryder had the same amount as well on one hit.

Madison has the lead currently in the Bull Run District with a 6-1 record while also having a tie with Strasburg for the best overall record at 10-6.

Madison also had a game against Orange County on Saturday, as well as a game on Monday against Strasburg. (Results were unavailable at press time.)

The Mountaineer girls play 7 p.m. Thursday, May 7, against Manassas Park in the Cougars house.
