Reagan, Bush I and Bush II — the headlines are the same – “Citizens Poorer and Losing Their Jobs,” “Economy in Dire Straits,” “Deficits Beyond Belief,” “Health Care Dwindling,” “All Children Left Behind” and “The Rich Getting Richer.”
Greed is running rampant in Corporate America. We find ourselves in a country where billions in corporate profits and millions for corporate CEOs’ salaries and perks is not enough — they want more — at our expense!
Republican administrations have become stepping stones for Corporate America. These officials, elected with corporate money, go to Washington and give the corporations what they want — no matter what it does to the economy, no matter what it does to our air and water, no matter how many lives are lost with aggressive tactics in other countries and no matter how much it removes from our own citizens’ pocketbooks.
Citizens need to ignore the TV ads laced with lies, the fear tactics and the sarcastic stunts that John McCain and Sarah Palin focus on to distract us from the real problems. If you talk to your friends in our own community, many agree on what changes need to take place. The important and critical issues we face as a nation include having affordable health care for all of our families, having food on our tables and a home for that table, having clean, renewable, affordable energy so we don’t have to destroy the environment and destroy other countries because we are solely dependent on oil and having a robust economy where we can all prosper.
We need leadership that makes life better for every small town family, while moving the country forward on many other fronts. We need leadership that can restore our reputation as good people worldwide.
Barack Obama and Joe Biden are the candidates in this election who know small town America and have our families in mind when they speak of change. Obama and Biden have the necessary experience, strength and common sense to know what approach is needed at home and abroad to lead America out of the quagmire left behind by the Republicans.
