Madison Habitat for Humanity was organized during fall 1995. The group meets on the first Tuesday of the month at Madison United Methodist Church on South Main Street. It is a group of very caring, friendly people. They welcome new members. Habitat is very grateful for all the help and kindness from our residents, businesses and Habitat families who have made this project such a success.
Eight homes have been built housing nine families. A home of their own is such a dream for the families. One person, Fannie Twyman, even slept with house plans under her pillow during the time her home was being built. She died a few years ago and her home has been refurbished for another family. Her love and appreciation expressed, warmed the hearts of all who had the pleasure of making her dream come true.
Besides Habitat’s annual fund drive, we have two major fund-raisers. The 13th annual daffodil sales will begin around St. Patricks Day, our Irish celebration, even though all our daffodils actually come from Holland. Members pride themselves by growing their own special varieties and also are welcoming daffodils from other growers.
For information, please call Habitat President Don Gerhart at (540) 672-4806 or Habitat Treasurer Bob Anderson at (540) 948-4545.
Our daffodil sales will begin around mid-March and will be near both Yoders County Market in Pratts and the Madison Food Lion.
The Habitat for Humanity Walkathon is set for Sunday, May 17. The time and location will be announced later.
