Madison County recently made yet another national magazine’s list of popular destinations. But this time, the county is being recognized as one of the top 10 places to build a log home.
Log Home Living magazine’s August 2009 issue trumpets Madison County as one of the nation’s “glorious spots to call home.”
The Chantilly-based magazine admits it favors the county due to its relatively close proximity to the magazine’s editorial office. However, that’s not the only reason Madison County was chosen.
“The area is high on misty views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the salutary pursuits of camping, hiking and trout fishing,” the article states. In addition, the county’s wineries, fine dining, antiquing and Civil War battlefield sites offer its citizens other adventures, according to the magazine.
“Madison delivers recreationally with its opportunities for birding, cycling and hunting, while also offering the pleasures of local community festivals, garden tours and restaurants specializing in home cookin’,” the article states.
Log Home Living also refers to Madison County’s inclusion in The Progressive Farmer magazine’s top 10 best places to raise a farm family, adding that the county “maintains a strong agricultural tradition while at the same time has great tourist credentials.”
In the August issue’s editor’s note, Editor-in-Chief Michael McCarthy briefly explains the magazine’s process for compiling the list.
“We begin with scores of towns, begin to whittle – and finally offer places that cater to log homes, remain affordable and boast recreational activities from fly-fishing to hiking,” according to the editor’s note. “We never forget that living in a log home is truly part of a lifestyle.”
