Policy shift worries Arrington

Editor:

The Madison Board of Supervisors took a giant step backward last week when it adopted its new personnel policy. In a four to one vote (I voted no), the board essentially, delegated all personnel management (hiring, promotions, separations, classifications and/or reclassifications) to the county administrator – who may redelegate to the director of Finance at her discretion.

This is a big departure from our previous policy.

In times where greater oversight and management of our personnel resources are needed the BOS should not be retreating from its responsibility. The BOS is the direct link to the public and should be accountable for the countiy’s personnel management.

Hopefully, the new board who will be seated in a few months will agree and take back control of these county resources.

James Arrington
Brightwood
Vice Chairman
Madison County
Board of Supervisors
